Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support WebSphere Application Server in a UNIX-based environment, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance of web applications.
  • Proactively manage, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to WebSphere, JBoss, and other web application platforms.
  • Lead triage and customer support events, working independently or as part of a team to quickly diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Implement and document process improvements, ensuring continuous optimization of system administration workflows and practices.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure smooth deployments and Agile software delivery.
  • Provide leadership in day-to-day administration of web application platforms, setting an example of technical excellence and ownership for the team.
  • Configure and manage web application communication protocols such as SOAP, HTTP, XML, and others.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and security of WebSphere and associated services, implementing best practices to ensure system stability.
  • Handle system upgrades, patching, and ensure timely application of security fixes.
  • Contribute to capacity planning, scalability, and resource optimization for web application environments.
  • Database management: comfortable writing and optimizing SQL queries to support application integrations and troubleshooting.
  • Continuously research and adopt emerging technologies and best practices to improve system performance and reduce operational risk.

 

Qualifiations
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Communications, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in WebSphere administration or similar Unix-based application environments (such as JBoss, Tomcat, etc.).
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills, including shell scripting, file system management, user permissions, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience with web application communication protocols, including SOAP, HTTP, XML, and others.
  • Proficient in SQL and working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, DB2, MySQL).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with business stakeholders, development teams, and support staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, ensuring timely support and delivery of solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead triage events, resolving issues with little to no guidance or requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead by example, provide guidance to junior team members, and drive team collaboration.
