Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Incident Response & Support: Provide rapid response and resolution to incidents, supporting global Unix infrastructure activities.
  • System Optimization & Automation: Perform advanced system tuning and optimization to meet application-specific requirements. Drive standardization and automation of Unix environments.
  • System Upgrades & Compliance: Ensure systems are compliant with the technology roadmap, including OS and hardware upgrades, and third-party software updates.
  • Collaboration with Engineering & Vendors: Work closely with Unix engineering teams and external vendors to ensure high-quality system maintenance and performance.
  • Client Interaction: Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders at all levels of the organization to address and resolve Unix-related issues.
  • Global Team Support: Be part of the follow-the-sun support model, providing round-the-clock coverage and occasionally working during out-of-hours and weekends for essential change windows.
 
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Unix/Linux (SLES, OEL, RHEL) and Solaris system administration, including upgrades, patching, configuration management, and performance troubleshooting.
  • 5+ years working with Veritas products (VCS, Volume Management) on Solaris and Linux platforms.
  • Proven experience with EMC or equivalent enterprise storage products.
  • Strong skills in TCP/IP Networking, advanced system tuning, and working in firewalled environments.
  • Expertise in system analysis, capacity planning, and troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Experience in Perl and Shell scripting to automate routine tasks.
  • Familiarity with ITSM procedures and experience in managing large-scale systems and installations.
  • Availability for out-of-hours and weekend work as needed to comply with applicable change windows.
