The Sr. System Architect serves as the Technical Design Authority, bridging the gap between enterprise architecture strategy and engineering delivery. This is a “boots-on-the-ground” leadership role responsible for defining detailed technical blueprints—including microservices design, cloud-native patterns, and API contracts—required to modernize mission-critical systems. You will lead the migration of legacy IBM Mainframe/TPF environments into a modern Java and Spring-based event-driven architecture (EDA), ensuring architectural integrity throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities
- Translate high-level business capabilities into detailed technical specifications for microservices, integration patterns, and cloud-native architectures.
- Lead the technical design and execution for replacing legacy systems with scalable Java and Spring Boot microservices.
- Design and govern robust API contracts and integration patterns to enable seamless, real-time communication across heterogeneous, multi-domain environments.
- Maintain deep visibility into the engineering lifecycle. Partner with development teams to ensure implementations adhere to architectural standards for reusability, scalability, and performance.
- Apply industry-standard frameworks (TOGAF, BizBok, DAMA/DMBok) to ensure alignment with enterprise data and business standards.
- Provide technical leadership in a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment, aligning the architectural runway with Program Increment (PI) planning and continuous delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive IT experience, including 10+ years in technology/system architecture.
- Proven experience defining and implementing technology solutions for large-scale, complex systems.
- Demonstrated track record of migrating IBM Mainframe/TPF workloads to Event-Driven Architectures (EDA).
- Expert-level knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Kafka/Kinesis, and cloud-native patterns (AWS/Azure).
- 5+ years practicing within SAFe and familiarity with frameworks such as TOGAF, BizBok, and DAMA/DMBok.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor senior engineers and influence executive stakeholders through clear, actionable technical blueprints.
