Roles and Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of an existing GCP-hosted application running on App Engine and Datastore/Firestore.
• Work closely with the outgoing resource to understand the system’s architecture, data flows, and dependencies.
• Maintain, improve, and scale backend workflows written in Python.
• Build and optimize BigQuery queries for analytics and reporting use cases.
• Manage deployments, monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting within the GCP ecosystem.
• Identify and implement improvements in performance, cost-efficiency, architecture, and automation.
• Ensure high availability and reliability of the application, including support for production issues.
• Act as the single point of accountability for the application, coordinating with business users and technical teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong, hands-on experience with key GCP services, including:
  • App Engine (deployment, scaling, performance monitoring)
  • Cloud Datastore / Firestore (data modeling, indexing, query optimization)
  • BigQuery (ETL, complex query design, performance tuning)
• Proficient in Python for backend development, scripting, and data processing.
• Solid understanding of API integrations, data pipelines, and cloud-native application patterns.
• Ability to quickly analyze and document existing systems and propose enhancements.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with additional GCP tools: IAM, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines on GCP.
• Previous experience managing application transitions or knowledge transfer processes.
