We are seeking a Principal Enterprise Tableau Platform & AI Integration Consultant with deep expertise in Tableau platform architecture, distributed systems, APIs, security, and Enterprise GenAI integration.
This is not a report development or visualization design role. The focus is enterprise-scale platform engineering, infrastructure, API architecture, security, and AI/agent integration.
Core Deliverables
- Tableau Platform: Enterprise rollout, platform architecture, lifecycle governance, scalability, performance, self-service onboarding, and Creator adoption.
- Tableau Data Apps: Design and deployment of web-based analytics applications using Embedding API v3 and VizQL Data Service.
- Enterprise Assistant & GenAI: Integrate Tableau with Enterprise Assistant and autonomous BI agents using governed semantic context and secure entitlement propagation.
- MCP Enablement: Design and deploy production Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers exposing Tableau metadata, schemas, semantic models, and query capabilities to AI and developer workflows.
Required Technical Competencies
Platform & Distributed Systems
- Multi-node Tableau architecture, scalability, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting high-concurrency enterprise environments.
- Query optimization across Trino, StarRocks, and Snowflake.
- Hyper extract optimization, caching, Backgrounder scheduling, and bottleneck analysis.
Security & Compliance
- Dynamic Row-Level Security (RLS) and Column-Level Security (CLS) with LDAP/AD.
- OAuth, SAML, PATs, Connected Apps, and JWT-based authentication.
- Headless/API security and identity/entitlement propagation.
- Cross-border data sovereignty and regulatory isolation, including China PIPL.
APIs & Automation
- Expert knowledge of Tableau REST API, Metadata API (GraphQL), Embedding API v3, and VizQL Data Service.
- Strong Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js automation and integration experience.
GenAI, Agents & MCP
- Hands-on development and deployment of MCP servers.
- Experience structuring BI semantic models and metadata as machine-readable context for LLMs.
- Experience integrating Tableau with GenAI/autonomous agents while maintaining user identity, authorization, and data entitlements.
Candidate Qualifications
- 9+ years in Enterprise Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Systems Architecture.
- 5+ years focused on enterprise Tableau infrastructure, architecture, and APIs.
- Background in Big Tech, hyperscale SaaS, or Tableau Professional Services preferred.
- Proven experience operating Tableau environments supporting 25,000+ active users.
- Experience leading enterprise BI migrations from platforms such as ThoughtSpot, BusinessObjects, and HAWK.
- Strong experience working across infrastructure, data engineering, security, application engineering, and AI teams.
