Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Payments Technical Architect with 10+ years of hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, Kafka, cloud technologies, Kubernetes, MuleSoft, and MQ. The ideal candidate will have strong experience designing and implementing highly scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise applications, with a strong understanding of the payments domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and architect scalable, secure, and high-performance payment applications using Java, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the application development lifecycle, from architecture and design through implementation and production support.
  • Develop and integrate distributed applications using Kafka, MQ, MuleSoft, and REST-based services.
  • Design cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS/Azure/GCP or equivalent cloud technologies and container platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Work closely with business, product, engineering, and architecture teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Design solutions using appropriate architectural and design patterns to ensure scalability, maintainability, resiliency, and performance.
  • Develop reusable Java components, frameworks, and libraries following clean-code and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Apply Java concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization techniques where required.
  • Design applications integrating with relational and external/embedded databases.
  • Participate in application performance analysis, troubleshooting, JVM tuning, and production issue resolution.
  • Implement automated testing, unit testing, and quality engineering practices.
  • Support CI/CD implementation and DevOps practices using tools such as Git, Maven, Gradle, and Jenkins or equivalent platforms.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting solutions using Splunk and related observability tools.
  • Collaborate with Agile teams and participate in sprint planning, design discussions, code reviews, and technical demonstrations.
  • Mentor developers and provide technical guidance on architecture, coding standards, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude, where appropriate.

Payments Domain Experience

Experience working with financial services or payment-processing platforms and exposure to one or more of the following:

  • FedWire
  • CHIPS
  • The Clearing House (TCH)
  • SEPA
  • ACH
  • Real-Time Payments (RTP)
  • SWIFT
  • ISO 20022
  • MT messaging
  • Payment processing, settlement, clearing, and payment integration systems

Required Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in software development and technical architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming.
  • Strong experience with Spring MVC and Spring Boot.
  • Excellent knowledge of REST APIs and microservices architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka and MQ.
  • Experience with MuleSoft or similar integration platforms.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and database technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Agile development methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Git and source-code management.
  • Experience with Maven, Gradle, or Ant.
  • Experience with application monitoring and troubleshooting using Splunk.
  • Strong understanding of automated testing and unit-testing practices.
