We are seeking a Senior OpenTelemetry Engineer / Analyst to design, implement, and optimize observability pipelines. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in OpenTelemetry (Otel), Java development, and integration with observability platforms such as Grafana and Datadog. This role focuses on building robust telemetry infrastructure, standardizing instrumentation, and ensuring accurate and reliable monitoring across services.
Key Responsibilities
- OpenTelemetry Engineering: Configure and implement Otel processors, filters, and metadata enrichment. Standardize and deploy approved exporters across telemetry pipelines.
- Library Development: Build and maintain Otel-based tracing wrappers, metrics helpers, and context propagation utilities.
- Metadata Implementation: Apply metadata enrichment standards across SDKs, Collectors, and Gateway levels.
- Platform Integration: Integrate OpenTelemetry libraries with Grafana and Datadog, ensuring zero telemetry loss during data transfer.
- Alerts Re-instrumentation: Refactor and migrate legacy Java-based instrumentation to OpenTelemetry standards for accurate alerting.
- Documentation & Support: Create runbooks, technical documentation, and implementation guides to support team adoption and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Java Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with Java, including refactoring legacy codebases.
- OpenTelemetry Expertise: Deep technical understanding of the OpenTelemetry ecosystem, including SDKs, Collectors, and Exporters.
- Observability Platforms: Proven experience integrating telemetry data with Grafana and Datadog.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in distributed systems and microservices monitoring is a plus.
