Responsibilities

• Analyze and assess current mainframe workloads related to payments applications (e.g., ACH, wire transfers) to identify potential improvements or areas for modernization.
• Utilize deep knowledge of commercial payments platforms, including Pep+, ACH, wire transfers, and other commercial payment systems.
• Provide consulting and architectural guidance on integrating mainframe-based applications with distributed systems, ensuring seamless data flow and operational efficiency.
• Participate in mainframe modernization efforts, helping customers leverage new technologies and strategies to reduce operational costs and improve performance.
• Evaluate and design multi-tier applications with the mainframe serving as a critical data layer.
• Collaborate within Agile teams and utilize Jira for tracking project progress, sprints, and work management.
• Present findings and recommendations on how to optimize the use of the mainframe, including opportunities for improved connectivity, new technologies, and data residency strategies.
• Work directly with clients to understand their business processes, payment system needs, and provide technical guidance to enhance overall system effectiveness.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe development, consulting, and architecture.
• Extensive experience working with commercial payments systems, specifically Pep+ (Payments Engine Platform) and various payment types like ACH and wire transfers.
• Proven ability to manage and optimize mainframe applications handling payments transactions.
• Experience working in Agile development environments, including using Jira for project tracking and collaboration.
• Strong understanding of both mainframe and distributed application design and architecture.
• Previous experience in mainframe modernization, transitioning legacy systems to newer technologies and platforms.
• Experience in multi-tier application architecture, specifically using mainframes as a data layer while integrating with distributed applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to analyze complex systems, identify pain points, and recommend effective solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud-based solutions and hybrid architectures involving mainframe and distributed environments.
• Familiarity with various mainframe programming languages (e.g., COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS).
• Experience with data residency and regulatory compliance requirements related to financial systems.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies like AI, machine learning, and automation in the context of mainframe and payments systems.
