Job Description
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain IMS-based COBOL programs based on business requirements and system needs.
  • Work with IMS DB (Database) and IMS DC (Data Communications) to manage and optimize data access and communications in mainframe applications.
  • Perform system, unit, and integration testing on COBOL programs. Use mainframe debugging tools to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Ensure the continued performance of legacy systems while supporting efforts to modernize and integrate them with newer technologies.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, including program specifications, flowcharts, and operational procedures to ensure clarity and consistency across development and operational teams.
  • Adhere to industry standards, security protocols, and best practices in COBOL programming and mainframe application development.
  • Work with software version control and deployment processes in a mainframe environment to manage code changes and release cycles.
  • Collaborate with other developers, systems analysts, and stakeholders to design and implement solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Participate in the migration and modernization of mainframe systems, integrating COBOL applications with newer technologies.

 

Qualifications
  • Strong expertise in COBOL programming for mainframe systems.
  • Proficiency in IMS DB and IMS DC, including data management and communications.
  • JCL (Job Control Language) and TSO/ISPF experience in a mainframe environment.
  • Familiarity with VSAM and DB2 databases is a plus.
  • Understanding of the SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) in mainframe environments.
  • Experience debugging COBOL programs using mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Xpediter, Abend-AID).
  • Knowledge of software version control and deployment processes on the mainframe.
  • Ability to write unit, integration, and functional tests for COBOL components.
  • Understanding of security principles like OAuth2, JWT, encryption, and API security.
  • Knowledge of other mainframe high-level languages such as Assembler or PL/1 is a plus.
  • Certifications in IBM IMS and DB2 are highly preferred.
