The ideal candidate should have strong experience in COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, and mainframe technologies, with the ability to analyze business requirements, develop technical solutions, and provide production support in a collaborative environment.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience with IBM z/OS environment.
- Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM/Files, and IMS DB/DC.
- Experience in application development, enhancement, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of production support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Experience with unit testing, debugging, and code optimization.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and coding standards.
- Ability to analyze business requirements and prepare technical design documents.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in Agile or collaborative delivery teams is preferred.
Required Experience
- 4–8 years of experience in Mainframe application development and support.
- Hands-on experience supporting and enhancing applications on IBM z/OS.
- Strong development experience using COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, and VSAM/File processing.
- Experience in application change requests, performance tuning, and data analysis.
- Proven experience in production support, incident troubleshooting, and defect resolution.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including Business Analysts, QA, and stakeholders.
- Experience documenting technical designs, solutions, and operational procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support, maintain, and enhance business-critical applications running on IBM z/OS.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into detailed technical design documents.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, and VSAM/File processing.
- Implement application enhancements, bug fixes, and performance improvements.
- Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, and support system integration activities.
- Provide production support by investigating and resolving incidents within SLA timelines.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions for recurring issues.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA teams, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Communicate project status, technical risks, dependencies, and solution options effectively.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, development best practices, and quality processes.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, design documents, and knowledge articles.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and application optimization.
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IBM utilities and debugging tools.
- Exposure to Change Management and Release Management processes.
- Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Control-M or CA-7.
- Knowledge of source code management tools such as Endevor or Changeman.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
