Mainframe Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Mainframe Engineer / z/OS Systems Programmer with strong expertise in IBM Z hardware, z/OS administration, system upgrades, ISV products, performance tuning, automation, and disaster recovery. Experience supporting large enterprise or regulated environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute z/OS upgrades, maintenance, and migrations.

• Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot ISV and system software.

• Manage HMC, LPAR, I/O, HCD/IOCP, and WLM configurations.

• Monitor and tune system performance and resource utilization.

• Maintain critical datasets including SYSRES, page, and SMF datasets.

• Diagnose and resolve complex z/OS, JES, workload, and ISV issues.

• Support automation, monitoring, vendor escalations, and enterprise operations.

• Participate in DR planning, GDPS activities, IPL testing, and recovery events.

• Provide 24x7 production support as part of an on-call rotation.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with z/OS installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and migrations.

• Experience with IBM PTFs, APARs, SMP/E, IPLs, and system maintenance.

• Expertise with IBM Z hardware, including CPC, LPAR, HMC/SE, HCD/IOCP, IOCDS/IODF, FICON, OSA, and Coupling Facility.

• Experience with WLM, JES2, RMF, SMF, TMON, and SAS.

• Installation and support of Broadcom/CA, BMC, IBM, and Rocket Software products.

• Knowledge of OPS/MVS, System Automation, Automation Point, and ZEKE Scheduler.

• Experience with GDPS, disaster recovery, replication, and IPL/DR testing.

• Strong troubleshooting skills using system logs, SYSOUT, dumps, and diagnostic data.

• Experience supporting 24x7 production environments and on-call rotations.
