We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator (DB2 DBA) with strong expertise in IBM DB2 on z/OS architecture. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in DB2 database administration, performance tuning, utilities, data integrity, and mainframe technologies. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining database stability, optimizing performance, supporting application development, and ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of organizational data.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain IBM DB2 databases in a mainframe z/OS environment.
- Ensure database integrity, availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
- Perform DB2 performance tuning, query optimization, Explain analysis, and plan/package management.
- Manage DB2 database objects, including tables, indexes, tablespaces, partitions, and related structures.
- Implement DB2 Universal Table Space (UTS) conversion strategies and manage associated requirements, limitations, and enhancements.
- Execute DB2 utilities, including LOAD, UNLOAD, IMAGE COPY, RUNSTATS, REORG, RECOVER, CHECK DATA, CHECK INDEX, REPAIR, STOSPACE, and DSNCOPY.
- Perform DB2 commands and operational tasks, including thread monitoring and cancellation, utility termination, and database start/stop operations.
- Manage DB2 logs and support database recovery, backup, and restore activities.
- Support application development and deployment through database changes, user provisioning, and appropriate DB2 access controls.
- Work with application teams to support COBOL programs, VSAM datasets, and DB2 integration.
- Analyze complex database issues, identify root causes, and implement efficient and reliable solutions.
- Maintain database documentation, follow operational standards, and support production incidents and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to facilitate business enhancements and continuous improvement.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 DBA on mainframe z/OS architecture.
- Expert knowledge of TSO, MVS, JCL, SDSF, and ISPF.
- Working knowledge of REXX coding, scripting, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of COBOL and VSAM capabilities and their integration with DB2 applications.
- Strong understanding of DASD requirements, capacity calculations, and storage utilization.
- Experience with DB2 Master Console and DB2 subsystem environments, including DB2PMSTR, DB2PDBM1, and DB2PDIST.
- Hands-on experience with DB2 Version 12 (DB2 v12).
- Strong understanding of DB2 catalog tables and database object management.
- Experience with DB2 performance tuning, Explain, plan tables, and access plan analysis.
- Understanding of DB2 plans versus packages and bind/rebind processes.
- Knowledge of DB2 partitioning and partition rotation architecture.
- Strong understanding of DDL, DML, and CML.
- Experience with the DB2 Primary Option Menu, SPUFI, DCLGEN, and DB2I defaults.
- Experience with DB2 program preparation, precompile, bind, rebind, free, and run processes.
- Proficiency in DB2 commands, utilities, and administration tools.
