We are seeking a detail-oriented Accessibility Remediation Specialist to review and update Microsoft Word and PDF documents to meet ADA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Section 508 accessibility standards. The role ensures public-facing documents are fully accessible, properly tagged, and compliant with current accessibility guidelines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Remediate Word and PDF documents for accessibility compliance.
- Apply correct heading structure, ALT text, reading order, tagging, bookmarks, and metadata.
- Convert documents between Word and PDF while maintaining accessibility.
- Identify accessibility issues and correct formatting problems.
- Collaborate with content owners to clarify intent or resolve issues.
- Ensure all deliverables meet Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
- Use accessibility checkers to validate document compliance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word accessibility features (styles, headings, tables, lists, alt text).
- Advanced experience in Adobe Acrobat Pro (tagging, reading order, accessibility tools, remediation).
- Understanding of Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA, and ADA requirements.
- Ability to remediate complex documents, including forms, tables, and multi-section reports.
- High attention to detail and strong quality assurance skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Experience in large organizations or public sector is a plus.
Preferred Skills (Optional)
- Experience with AEM Forms, fillable PDFs, or form accessibility.
- Knowledge of screen readers (JAWS, NVDA).
- Experience writing accessibility reports or documenting remediation steps.
