Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, write, test, and maintain COBOL programs (COBOL-85, COBOL II, or later) to meet business requirements.
  • Work effectively in mainframe environments such as IBM z/OS or OS/390, utilizing mainframe utilities and tools.
  • Write and maintain JCL scripts to manage and execute COBOL batch jobs.
  • Utilize databases commonly used with COBOL systems, such as DB2, IMS, or VSAM, to manage data effectively.
  • Modify existing COBOL programs to improve functionality or address business changes.
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and implement complex business logic in COBOL applications.
  • Use mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Xpediter, Abend-AID) to troubleshoot and resolve issues in COBOL programs.
  • Manage software version control and deployment processes in a mainframe environment to ensure code integrity and stability.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including program specifications, flowcharts, and operational procedures.
  • Perform system testing, unit testing, and integration testing to verify that COBOL applications function correctly.
  • Write well-structured, efficient COBOL code adhering to industry standards, security protocols, and best practices.
 
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in COBOL programming, particularly COBOL-85, COBOL II, or later versions.
  • Extensive experience working in mainframe environments (IBM z/OS, OS/390, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of JCL and other mainframe utilities.
  • Experience with databases like DB2, IMS, or VSAM, and ability to write SQL queries.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve complex programming issues.
  • Proficiency in using mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Xpediter, Abend-AID).
  • Ability to create comprehensive documentation for code and processes.
  • Knowledge of other mainframe high-level languages such as Assembler or PL/1 is a plus.
